Devices At School & Home

Student Assigned Learning Device Procedure

The SALD Procedure outlines how students must use their school-issued learning devices responsibly, safely, and in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Internet Users’ Acceptable Use Policy.

The SALD applies to student-assigned devices and student loan devices.

Key Points for Parents

  • Devices are covered by Accidental Damage Protection.

  • A $100 excess is charged to the family’s tuition account for repairs.

  • If a device is lost or stolen, the current market value will be charged.

  • Students must report loss, damage, or theft immediately to the ICT Helpdesk.

  • Students must bring the device to school every day fully charged.

There are several changes to our Student Assigned Learning Device (SALD) model in 2026. The key to these changes has been a review of which devices can be taken home.

Junior School Devices

  • Junior Kindy and Kindy will remain device-free for general teaching and learning.

  • Pre-Primary – Year 2 will also be device-free for general teaching and learning, but will have access to technology for the teaching of the Digital Technology curriculum only.

  • Years 3 – 5 will have access to iPads. These will be formatted to provide access only to the required software and will not be taken home.

  • Year 6 will continue to have access to a Surface Go, as this is the device they have used in Year 5 (2025). However, in 2026, their device will not go home. Please note that from 2027, Year 6 will transition to 1to1 iPads that will be formatted to provide access only to the software required. This device will not be taken home.

iPad Content (Years 3 – 5)

  • The Junior School iPads will support our Microsoft collaboration tools, including the following Apps: OneDrive, OneNote, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • The iPads have been set up to reduce distraction, and the following default apps have been removed: The App Store, Apple News, Apple Notes, Apple Mail, the Calendar app, and the Stocks app. This creates a very streamlined and gradual approach for our girls' digital development.

  • Educational apps will be added sparingly after careful review and curriculum requirements. Advertisements, free apps, and gaming will not be allowed.

Senior School Devices

Girls will be provided with a Surface Device and will be able to take their device home.

How the School Monitors Devices

  • Secure filtering on all devices: We use advanced web filtering tools that block access to harmful or age-inappropriate websites. These filters apply both at school and while at home.

  • Device protection: Every device has security software installed, including Windows Defender and FortiClient, to provide additional layers of protection.

  • Monitoring and alerts: Our systems can flag concerning activity so that staff are aware and can respond if needed, within school hours.
