Important Changes to St Hilda’s Social Media Approach

As part of our commitment to protecting our girls in an evolving digital world, we will be making important changes to our use of images on public social media channels from the start of the 2026 school year.

Why is this Change Necessary?

The online environment has shifted rapidly in recent years, with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) creating new risks for children.

  • Overseas, there have been serious cases where images and names taken from a school’s social media have been altered into harmful deepfakes and used for ransom threats.

  • Once an image is publicly posted, it can be downloaded, manipulated, and shared without our knowledge or consent.

  • From December 2025, new Australian legislation will prohibit the use of social media for individuals under 16. This means our girls under the age of 16 will no longer be legally able to access these platforms.

As educators and role models, we have an obligation to lead by example and support families in navigating these changes.

What Changes will be Evident in 2026?

  • We will no longer post identifiable images of girls on public school social media channels.

  • Images used will be non-identifiable, such as side profiles, backs of heads, distant group shots, filters over images or approved stock photography.

  • Social media content will focus on programs, achievements, stories, and resources that highlight the extraordinary opportunities at St Hilda’s for prospective and current families.

  • We will introduce Pixevety, a secure photo gallery platform, allowing parents and guardians to view photos of their children.

Introducing Pixevety

Pixevety is password-protected and only accessible to authorised families. This will become the primary way to safely view and download images of your daughter from school events, performances, and activities. Pixevety will provide you with an ongoing catalogue of your daughter’s journey with us in one handy location.

Access will be via the School App, and you will be able to download your own images as you wish.

This change reinforces:

  • protecting our girls from exploitation and misuse of their images,

  • modelling best practice in online safety and privacy, and

  • the value of continuing to share our stories, while using private channels for personal imagery.

A detailed Parent Q&A can be found below, answering the most common questions about this change and how it will work in practice.

We understand this is a significant shift from how school events and school life have traditionally been shared online, and we thank you for partnering with us as we navigate these changes.

Will the School still Celebrate School Events on Social Media?

Yes. We will still share event highlights and celebrations on social media, but without functioning as an “event photo gallery”. Instead, we’ll share:

  • Overview shots that don’t identify individual girls

  • Key messages about the event’s purpose and outcomes

  • Directions for parents to access the Pixevety gallery for full coverage

How will this affect the School’s Marketing?

Our social media will focus on:

  • Highlighting St Hilda’s programs, values, and learning opportunities

  • Sharing parent and alumni stories

  • Providing resources for families

  • Reaching prospective parents and girls through compelling, non-identifiable content

This approach ensures we continue to showcase the extraordinary opportunities at St Hilda’s while keeping our students safe.

When will this Change take Effect?

The change will be implemented at the start of the 2026 school year. We are providing advance notice so families are aware and can adjust expectations for how events and activities will be shared online.

How will the school ensure the new approach works smoothly?

  • We will provide training for staff and photographers on the new image guidelines.

  • Parents will receive information and instructions on accessing Pixevety.

  • Social media content will be reviewed to ensure compliance and maintain engagement.

Can I Share Photos of my Daughter Online?

Yes. Your personal choice as a parent remains the same. This change applies only to the school’s official public social media channels. We encourage families to be aware of online privacy risks when sharing images.
